Mystery of cubed Wombat poop solved

Wombats drop anywhere from four to eight pieces of poop, each measuring about 2 centimeters across, during a single session. Most impressive is the cubic shape.

During the course of one evening, the nocturnal creatures can produce 80 to 100 cubes. Researchers examined wombats that had become road kill. They found the wombat's intestines did the work at the end of the digestive process. The animals use the dung to mark their territory and attract mates.
